Warm Clothing Needed for Men’s Hostel
As it gets cooler more warm clothing is needed: winter jackets (any size), underwear, belts, toques, gloves, scarves, sweaters (any size), work boots and runners (sizes 9 to 12), pants (sizes 34 and under), shirts (any size) and hoodies (any size) and more urgently needed are socks!
To donate, please send items to the Men’s Hostel, 828 Cambie Street, Vancouver, or visit us daily between noon and 10 p.m. (Saturdays and Sundays 4-10 p.m.).

Volunteer Opportunities
Catholic Charities Men’s Hostel is looking for paid volunteers for our Extreme Weather Response program. Extreme weather warnings are issued when the temperature dips to 2 degrees or lower. On those days, we will phone volunteers to come in and help the staff supervise the shelter from 7 pm to 11 pm. Overnight shifts are also available. Training will be provided at the end of November. Aside from the volunteer positions, we have overnight shifts available. The overnight shifts
run from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. B.C. Housing will pay $13 an hour ($104 a night).
If you’re interested in participating either as a volunteer or as a temporary worker, let me know if you can come to a 1-hour training session on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m., or on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. The sessions will be held at the Men’s Hostel.

History
Catholic Charities Men’s Hostel began our mission on the 3rd floor of our Vancouver Archdiocese offices, via the orders of Archbishop Johnson, forming a committee, in October of 1958. The Men’s Hostel was opened 13 months later in November of 1959. Since opening, the Emergency Shelter has grown in size to 102 beds, our staff is now over 15 and growing, and still increasing the range and depth of social services offered to our guests.
