Megaphone Appreciation Day

Hello Johnny,

I’m very honoured to announce the City of Vancouver is proclaiming Monday, December 17th, 2012 ‘Megaphone Appreciation Day‘.

The declaration is in recognition of Megaphone’s impact in helping give homeless and low-income people in Vancouver an economic opportunity and a voice and for strengthening communities across our city.

And what better way to celebrate the occasion than by purchasing the special holiday edition of Megaphone out on the street today. In this issue you’ll find:

Spirit of the Season: Megaphone vendor Kris Cronkshares his holiday memories and reminds us of the important impact that even our smallest actions have on those around us.

A Christmas Story: Brazilian author Paulo Cohelo, ambassador of the International Network of Street papers (INSP), reminds us to think twice before passing judgment.Rainier Hotel on Shaky Ground: Programs are cut as the women’s social housing building, the Rainer Hotel loses the ‘heart and soul’ of its addictions treatment program.W2 Eviction: Megaphone delivers breaking news about community media arts hub W2 and its battle to avoid being evicted from the Woodward’s building. Also in this issue: Megaphone vendor Peter Thompson reflects on his exciting train hopping days; Downtown Eastside female artists prepare to sell their pieces at the 3rd Annual Community Christmas Fair; social housing shipping containers are coming to Vancouver; we celebrate another successful Night of Joyful Voices; and more!
