Tuesday, October 14 2014 there is a Megaphone Magazine Event

A special Megaphone vendor reading part of Homelessness Action Week 2014

megaphoneJoin us for a special literary reading by Megaphone vendors writing about home—and the consequences of its absence. We also celebrate the launch of a redesigned, expanded Megaphone, which hits the streets as a new monthly magazine in October.

Date: Tuesday, October 14  2014

Place: Cottage Bistro, 4468 Main Street (between 28th and 29th)

Time: 7-8:30pm (please consider arriving early for a meal or drink to help Eugene recover costs for letting us use his restaurant for this event)

Cost: Free

Megaphone vendors reading this evening took part in a special fall series of writing workshops led by Michael Christie, an award-winning author and former Downtown Eastside shelter worker. Michael is the author of The Beggar’s Garden, a 2011 collection of linked short stories, and the forthcoming novel If I Fall, If I Die, which launches in January 2015.

The evening will feature Megaphone vendor readings by:

-Peter Thompson

-Garvin Snider

-Kris Cronk

-Stephen Scott

-Hendrik Beune

Plus a special reading by Michael Christie.

Readings will be followed by a brief vendor panel discussion hosted by Megaphone editor Jackie Wong.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the City of Vancouver and Homelessness Action Week 2014 in making this evening possible. Big thanks to Eugene Dong of Cottage Bistro for lending us his space and being a friend to Megaphone.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you for your support,
